Eren Jaeger from Shingeki No Kyojin.

My Shingeki Feels I’ll try my best to make this post spoiler free. A certain post about Shingeki no Kyojin this morning was kinda disturbing, but it’s just something petty. I need to let it out. When I first saw the trailer of SnK, I was amazed by the animation and background music. So I decided that this is a MUST watch anime for the season. After watching the first episode, I immediately read the manga – and it took me one day to finish up to the latest chapter. I keep telling myself, oh, by 11pm I should stop reading and proceed to another work. But I ended up reading until 3pm as the story was addicting. I love how the mangaka teases us with suspense and cliffhanger, so many things are yet to be answered and make me thirst for more. The flashbacks may be jumbled up but I find it unique! And there were a lot of WTF moments. The art is rather messy, but that’s what I like. Plus the mangaka knows his stuff; applying Mixed Martial Art and Urban Fighting into the story. Even some of the characters were inspired by real life martial artists (A certain sexy titan is based on Yushin Okami, while Armoured Titan is based on Brock Lesnar). I am not sure about the science behind the 3D Maneuver Gear but at least they don’t go all Naruto/Dragon Ballzy with their jumping skills. For me it’s a story that is hard to hate. But I’m kind of sad seeing negative comments like “plot is going down”, “story is not progressing”, “cliché”, “predictable” and worse [SPOILER] “he will NEVER reach his house” and also “I only see fans caring more about the characters than the actual story”. This may make me sound like a butthurt fangirl but all I wanna say is YOU GUYS AREN’T CAPABLE OF APPRECIATING HAJIME ISAYAMA’S ART OF STORYTELLING. I love how the author makes me thirst for more, taking the ‘not reaching his house yet’ as an example. I think these people are giving up too early cos there are so many things yet to be answered but it’s the author’s decision to arrange the revelations. Don’t be so negative about it, including the many deaths, just see it as an atypical way to make the story addicting. Plus it’s a shounen manga, why’d you expect everything to be answered in one volume? I couldn’t care less about clichés, at this age it cannot be avoided anymore, so all I care about his how the author execute the story.I don’t really see SnK as predictable. Come on, did you actually predict who the ‘special titans’ were? Another thing is, a story may become predictable from your perspective if you try too hard in guessing what happens next. Just stop, you’re just ruining the fun of looking forward for the next chapter/episode.  I’m pretty sure the author knows what he’s doing, we don’t need people to foresee the future (and later be OMG I’M SO PROUD THAT I’M A PSYCHIC SIAHSKHADSHDJHDJ). Which is why I no longer participate in forums. Yeah I know it’s fun to predict things but don’t take it too seriously. To justify why I’d rather ogle at the characters rather than discussing about the plot to deep, it’s because I didn’t wanna ruin my mood with ‘predictions’ (which may lead to unhappy ending), as it is more fun to read doujins, ship the characters etc. However this does not mean I care very little about the story, I just want some other distraction and leave the author himself arrange HIS story (NOT YOUR story) and come up with a surprise. So ends my rant : )
